Married on the water, by string light.
A restored waterfront factory, a mural park for vows and portraits, and a team that has run hundreds of celebrations. Minutes from Fairfield, under thirty from Westport.
The venue that does not look like a venue.
Every country club in Fairfield County photographs the same. The Knowlton gives you timber beams and steel sash windows, a rose mural two stories tall, and the sunset going gold over the Pequonnock River behind your first dance. Your photos will not look like anyone else’s.
One address, the whole day.
Ceremony, cocktail hour and reception without a single car ride. Every act of the day has its own setting here.

The Ceremony
Vows in the open air, in the mural park or on the waterfront lawn, with room for every guest and the water behind you.

The Cocktail Hour
Drinks on the deck over the river while the Boathouse turns over for dinner. The skyline does the decorating.

The Reception
Industrial-chic and filled with natural light by day, the Boathouse opens three 14-by-12-foot garage doors onto a 1,200-square-foot deck over the water. After dark it turns to timber beams and a canopy of string light, for 50 to 500.

Some evenings, the sky joins the party.
A few weddings on the water.
What couples ask before they book.
How many guests can The Knowlton host for a wedding?
The Knowlton hosts weddings of many sizes, from intimate gatherings to large full-venue receptions. Most weddings run 120 to 200 guests, and larger weddings are accommodated through flexible, multi-space layouts.
Will the space feel too large for a mid-size wedding?
No. The event spaces are scaled intentionally through layout, lighting and furniture placement, so every wedding feels full and well balanced rather than oversized.
Can we host both the ceremony and reception on-site?
Yes. Many couples host both at The Knowlton. Ceremonies can take place outdoors on the waterfront deck or lawn, or indoors in the Armstrong Gallery or Wilder Gallery as a weather-protected option.
Do you offer indoor and outdoor wedding options?
Yes. The Knowlton has three distinct indoor event spaces plus dedicated waterfront outdoor areas, so couples can design a seamless indoor-outdoor wedding when weather allows.
Can we use multiple spaces throughout the day?
Yes. Couples often use one space for the ceremony, another for cocktail hour and a third for the reception, creating a natural flow and a more dynamic guest experience.
Is outside catering allowed for weddings?
Yes. Outside caterers are welcome, and The Knowlton regularly hosts weddings with a wide range of catering styles, including kosher and specialty caterers.
Is parking available for wedding guests?
Yes. The Knowlton offers 200 secured on-site parking spaces. Parking attendants are required once about 50 or more vehicles are expected, and weddings of 100 or more guests also require licensed security at one guard per 50 guests. Both are booked in addition to the rental.
How much does it cost to rent The Knowlton for a wedding?
Wedding pricing is customized to the date, which spaces you use across the day, your guest count and the overall scope, so couples receive a tailored proposal rather than a fixed package price. Send your date and guest count through the form on this page to get one.
How far in advance should we book our wedding?
Most couples book 12 to 18 months in advance, especially for peak spring and fall dates. That said, dates open up as other weddings postpone or move, and a date has come open as little as a month before, so it is worth reaching out even if your timeline is short.
How do we schedule a tour?
Use the inquiry form on this page to schedule a private tour. The team will walk you through the spaces, layout options and planning process.
